We have two Donald Ross golf courses in Bethlehem alone! Discounts at several area golf courses are available at the Inn.

The White Mountains also offer some of the best and most varied hiking and biking in the country. And whether you prefer on-road or off-road biking, you'll find miles of roads and trails. Other popular sports include tennis, canoeing, fishing, rafting, and horseback riding ... and spring is a great time for moose-watching!

Our heated pool is open Memorial Day Weekend, weather permitting. Springtime is the perfect time to enjoy the forest trails right behind the Inn (see pond on left). Or take the Cog Railway to the summit of Mount Washington or a leisurely train ride through a scenic mountain pass. We also have a historic movie house, the Colonial Theatre, right in Bethlehem. Carolyn Gage's latest one act play, Easter Sunday, read by Julia Reddy
For more information about Carolyn Gage:
For more information about Julia Reddy:
Carolyn Gage’s very latest one-act play! Easter Sunday is a brand-new play, and the playwright and Boston actress Julia Reddy (currently touring in The Second Coming of Joan of Arc) will be reading it. Audience members are invited to give feedback, becoming part of the new-play process!

The play is set in New York in 1960, and it is about Marty Mann, the lesbian who founded the National Council on Alcoholism and who was “the” national spokesperson and public face of alcohol awareness for decades. In 1960 she relapsed. This is a play about lesbians in the 1950’s, about Cherry Grove and Fire Island, about recovery, and about love. It’s also about the tensions between working class dykes and upper middle class “passing” lesbians. The play breaks all kinds of new ground. This is going to be a very exciting reading.

Book you room today! Carolyn's prior theatre weekends have all sold out. You do not want to miss this opportunity to experience Carolyn's truly remarkable work.

June 2018
Fields of Lupine Festival

The Fields of Lupine Festival is an annual event celebrating the blossoming of the lupines in New Hampshire's north country. Nowhere else does this beautiful wildflower figure so prominently in the landscape and the ethos of the region.

Early June sees roadsides and fields carpeted with this unique New Hampshire wildflower. You will enjoy views that are serene and awe inspiring at once. The communities of Bethlehem, Easton, Franconia, Sugar Hill, Twin Mountain, and Bretton Woods all join together to celebrate the coming of the lupines and to showcase the region. Every year they put together a host of great events around the flowering: garden tours, historic inn tours, concerts, sidewalk sales, and art exhibits.

Solstice Drum Circle

A drum circle is a musical gathering, but it’s more than just the instruments and the act of drumming; it is the shared experience of the participants. A drum circle is really a people circle, where the creative spirit is shared by everyone. It is not a percussion ensemble performing a prepared piece of music, or a drumming class led by a teacher, nor any group that is re-creating music it has played before. It's a unique event that is spontaneously created by the participants, with the help of a facilitator.

The Solstice Drum Circle will be led by Anne Boedecker and Gail Byrnes. Both are experienced group facilitators who know how to create a fun experience for everyone. There will be plenty of drums and other percussion instruments, but feel free to bring your own.

The White Mountains Association boasts "Summer was invented here." Visit us and we think you'll agree! Highlands Inn - Main Building, Pool & Gazebo in the Summertime

All of the area's outdoor sports and activities are in full swing - golf, tennis, hiking, biking, horsebackriding, canoeing, and fishing. Antiquing, two wonderful summer theaters, and music ranging from free summer bandstand concerts to world class chamber music all help to make the Inn the perfect summer getaway!
